The Sargeson Prize is back for 2020! New Zealand’s richest short-story prize is sponsored by the University of Waikato and includes an Open Division and a Secondary Schools Division.
For Secondary School entries, the maximum length is 3000 words and the prizes are $500 (first), $200 (second) and $100 (third). The Secondary Schools winner will also receive a one-week summer writing residency at the University of Waikato, including accommodation and meals, office space, and feedback on their writing!
This year the competition will be judged by Owen Marshall (New Zealand short-story writer). Entries are open 1 April – 30 June.
